Strategies For Stress Management

One of the strategies for stress management that I believe is the foundation of a solid stress management program is time management.    How much you decide to put on your plate is your choice.  Taking a realistic look at daily tasks helps to determine the time needed to accomplish each task.  A daily planner is a visual reminder that there are 24 hours in the day and helps with prioritizing and gaining an understanding that it’s OK to say NO.
Just a few weeks ago, I started to get a sore throat….a sure sign of a cold, or worse, the flu.  I went home at the end of my work day and looked at my calendar and rearranged my appointments so that I was sure to have a good night’s sleep every night for the next week.  When the weekend arrived, I rested.  I did not clean the house or do the laundry.  I did do some paperwork; but, I did not go out or do anything overly energetic. My mindset was on rest.  I, also, watched my diet, eating foods that gave me comfort and nutrition.  Of course, the basis of this diet was home-made chicken, noodle soup.  My snacks were apples.   The last part of this healing strategy was meditation….using visualization to heal my body and keep stress out of my mind.  When I awoke Monday morning, the aches and pains and sore throat were gone. My energy levels were low; but, I was on the mend.  We are told to get plenty of rest and eat right when we get ill.  Doing this involves making the decision to prioritize events in our life.  And, my health is a top priority.
I ended my post the other day with a quote by Albert Einstein:  No problem can be solved from the same  level of consciousness that created  it.  Time management aids in placing focus on how days are spent.    Prioritizing daily tasks to reach goals of our choosing aids in lowering stress levels.
I will leave you with a quote by Hans Selye, the “father of stress”:
I cannot and should not be cured of my stress, but merely taught to enjoy it.
Until the next time, look for the possibilities.
